Shawn has many loves in her life. The first and foremost is Jesus Christ. The second is her wonderful husband, Paul, and their four amazing kids – Austin, Colin, Brandon, and Hannah. A little further down the list (somewhere just past Corvettes) is mathematics and Physics. Shawn holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Florida State University. After graduation, she worked as a Test Engineer for General Motors at their Milford Proving Ground. At GM, she met Paul “between the Corvettes and the Camaros.”  Shawn has been teaching Calculus and Physics at Scholars Guild for 11 years and has been an AP Reader for the College Board for 3. In her free time she loves to spend time with her family, play games, read, cook, and go to Disney.

Dawn is married to Boone Brothers and has homeschooled all four of her children. She graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. Upon graduation, she taught mathematics at South Gwinnett High School in Gwinnett County for five years. With the arrival of her first child, she felt the Lord calling her to be at home. She has been tutoring high school and college math for many years. She is extremely excited to be using her God-given talents in the classroom at SGA! Dawn also enjoys reading, being outside and loving on the people in her home. Oh, did we mention the beach? She loves the beach, Captiva Island and Water Color to be exact!

Mary Leigh met her husband, Lee, at Georgia Tech while earning a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics.  After graduation, she taught at Brookwood High School in Gwinnett County until she delivered their first daughter. They now have four children …two spunky girls and two very energetic boys. Mary Leigh is a self-professed “math geek” and has delighted in tutoring middle, high school and college mathematics for more than 20 years as well as homeschooling her children for many years.   She was elated to get back to the classroom when she began teaching Math (and eventually Personal Finance) at Scholars Guild in 2011. She enjoys traveling with her husband and snuggling on the sofa with her kids.

jenny houston

Jenny married her husband Matt Houston in 2010. Together they have three children, Lucas, Emma and Levi. Jenny graduated from North Georgia College and State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Middle Grades Education. She went on to get her Masters in Education from Piedmont College. After graduating from college, Jenny taught 8th grade math at Gainesville Middle School for five years. After having her first child, she decided to stay home and raise her kids. Most of Jenny’s time is spent with her kids or serving alongside her husband at their church.

jeff lalaian

Jeff graduated from the University of Georgia with a B.S. in Mathematics and a master's in Mathematics Education. Jeff has taught upper level math in both private and public school for over 20 years. In his early teaching career, he also taught evenings at Perimeter College at Georgia State University for several years before marrying his beautiful wife, Misty. Together they have three lovely daughters, Ellie, Abbie, and Hannah. Jeff has been a math and statistics teacher at Scholars Guild since its inception and has a passion for educating. He also served as a long-time worship leader at his church and is incredibly fulfilled doing God’s work. Additionally, Jeff is an author, using his love of statistics and sports to write Notlanta: Georgia. Sports. Cursed?. His hobbies include piano, basketball, crosswords, and games of all kind.

Vicki Strine

Vicki has been married to her husband Trent since 1995.  They have four children – Alex, Jacob, Olivia and Ian. Vicki holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science and Mechanics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. After graduation, she worked as a project engineer for United Parcel Service for three years and Beers-Skanska Construction Company for four years. She later attended Georgia State University, working towards her Bachelors in Middle Childhood Education with a concentration in math and science. While attending Georgia State, she tutored middle and elementary students in both math and reading. Vicki has been homeschooling her children since 2009 and teaching math and science courses at Scholars Guild Academy since 2011. She enjoys traveling, yoga, reading, the beach, and anything Disney.
