History Society

National History Day is a competition that involves regional, state and national levels of competition for students who are interested in the study of history. This program encourages students to develop their critical thinking skills and allows them to present their research in any of a number of engaging ways, while having the opportunity to study the topic of their choice.

Quite a few Scholars Guild Academy students have participated at the regional and state competition over the past two years and several have won at those levels and have gone on to represent the state of Georgia at the national level at the University of Maryland. This program involves research including primary and secondary resources, interviewing with teachers and professors from the state and country and meeting students from many educational backgrounds who also enjoy the study of history.

Our own Becky Yount was also nominated by the state of Georgia in 2016 to receive the Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year Award!  We are so proud of Becky and thankful that her hard work and passionate sharing of her love of history with our students was awarded with this prestigous recognition.
